When An Organ Goes Rogue

And I'm not talking about the church organ deciding it will fizzle out in the middle of song service.

I'm talking about physical organs.  The ones God gave us to make a whole person.

My gall bladder has gone rogue.  Apparently it's been trying to tell me that for awhile and I mistook it for arthritis medicine side effects.  Who knew??

A trip to the ER because of extreme, unending pain that also ruled out appendix and an ultrasound confirmed that my gall bladder was so angry it was throwing stones.

So after a few weeks of crazy nausea and pain I'm having my gall bladder removed tomorrow.  The day after the biggest winter storm to hit the Midwest this year decided to cover us in inch upon inch of ice and snow.

I waver between butterflies and peace.  That's just how I roll.  See I worked in the medical field, on a surgical floor, so I have a little bit of knowledge from the other side of the nurses station.  Knowledge is a catch 22; you know what to except and you know ALL the crazy things that could pop up that are unexpected even in the most routine surgeries.  Hence the butterflies make their return, with roller skates strapped on.  So today I have kept pushing those things out of my head.

Doesn't something feel wrong about intentionally walking into a place to let them harm and cause pain?  I mean really.  We stop eating/drinking after midnight (I need my morning tea), we wear comfy clothes, walk in under our own steam and check in.  Then we allow them to jab needles in us, put us to sleep and then cut us open and remove God-given body parts.  Then we leave wobbly, in a wheel chair, armed with pain meds and strict orders to, well basically not do anything we would normally do for an extended period of time.  We do it all in the name of health.

I can think of a plethora of reasons not to have it done.  I have a million things to do and catch up now, not to mention we are looking to move in just two months!  I have to pack, ya know?!?  I am a stay at home mom that homeschools, don't ya know we have school work to do?!?  Not to mention all the other day to day activities.

Don't get me wrong.  I know it needs to come out, it's only hurting me by staying in.  So I'm going, not going to back out.  Even though we may need a snow mobile to get there, I'm going.

I guess I'm just frustrated that my gall bladder decided to go rogue.

I will be praying for you, Val. I had my gall bladder removed 31 years ago next month. Six weeks after my second cesaerian. It was done the old way where they cut you from stem to stern. Then I went home to a newborn and a 21 month old as a newly single mom. I do understand the fear and frustration of the timing.

You will be fine.
