A Herd??

Illness has been ravaging our home now for more than 10 days.  Hubs is the only so far that has been spared.  I'll save you the gory details, but suffice it to say that I have stimulated these industries:  tissue makers, juice producers, OTC medicine makers and popsicle makers.  Today I have windows open (blowing germs out ya know) and I am scrubbing everything, again.

So because I am intermittently cleaning and laying down to rest, I am going to leave you with a kidism so profoundly spoken by the baby in the family.  Daniel was schooling us and it's just too good not to share.

We were in the van, leaving the doctors office when a very large flock of birds flew across the sky in perfect vision of the four year old.

Daniel:  "Wow, that's a big herd of birds."

Sam:  "Daniel (said in that exasperated tone), it's not a herd, it's a flock.  A flock of birds."

Daniel:  "A flock?  No Sam (equally exasperated), it's not a flock.  Birds don't flock, they herd.  It's a HERD (very enunciated) of birds."

I was cracking up.  Daniel was certain that it was a herd and he was not changing his mind.  Later that day we were talking to the grandparents on FaceTime and Daniel told Grandpa about the herd of birds. While talking to him I realized why he thought it was a herd and not a flock.  Here you go:

Daniel:  "Grandpa, sheeps are flocks.  Birds fly away in herds."

Mommy:  (because Grandpa was giggling) "Daniel, what is a large group of cows?  What are they called?"

Daniel:  He looked at me as if I was crazy and very profoundly said, "Mama, a lots of cows are a flock.  And pigs and bufflo's."  (That is not a typo, it's his way of saying buffalo's)

Apparently all large animals that live in a groups are flocks.  If a group of sheep is a flock then all ground animals live and migrate in flocks.

Birds however migrate in herds.

Potty Training 2.0, Installment 3

Oh boy!! Shoulda never wrote that we were doing well with the pottying!! LOL On the very day that I wrote the potty training post (see below) this is what happened:

Daniel is in his underwear for about 45 minutes and has peeped in the potty twice. Thinking that we were doing well, I sat down at the computer to type a blog post, the one (below) about Daniel and the potty. While I was typing that very post he was busy, pooping in his underwear. He didn't tell me, I just happen to smell it. I took him into the bathroom to clean him and his Thomas underwear up. I had him standing near the tub (which just happened to be such a wonderful idea, who knew??) I pulled down his pants and he steps down too soon and directly into the poopy underwear. Seriously?? I lifted his foot to get the underwear off and he stepped down on the rug. I lifted him up and over the side of the tub to wash off his feet and his foot dragged all the way over and down the tub. Really?? He was dancing around in the empty tub while I quickly cleaned up the floor and threw the rug down the laundry shoot, which made wonderful little poopy foot prints all in the tub! I turned on the water, cleaned the tub (with bath soap, but hang on), cleaned his feet, legs and well, ALL of him. Took him out, put on clean underwear and sent him out. Then I brought out the heavy duty cleaner and cleaned the tub and shower.

Promptly 10 minutes later I went to get him to take him potty (I had just finished the bathroom mop job), we get into the bathroom and he peed in the floor, on his legs and on me. So he got cleaned again, I had wiped the floor, and changed my clothes. He peed in the next two pair of underwear and got cleaned up so much he was almost shiny.

Oh, and I put him in a pull up for the rest of the day.

The Potty Chronicles, Daniel Edition No. 1

Yes, it's THAT again. Baby boy child is on the cusp of potty training, technically one foot has stepped in. Full force potty training will begin in a couple of weeks. We are just getting out feet wet, so to speak. I feel very hopeful about this round! I think he will potty train pretty easily (that doesn't mean easy it just means easier than older brother Sam) and without too many melt downs. Hopefully Daniel won't meltdown either. ~Smile~

So the other day I decide to buy Daniel some pull-ups and just how he would do. Up to this point in his life going to the potty hasn't really been on his mind. He would sit down for 1.3 seconds and then announce that he was done even though there was nothing in the potty. But I wasn't stressing about it, trying to hold off a little longer before I step into a nervous breakdown on purpose. Makiah and Sam are both taking a personal interest in this as well. I mean I don't understand why potty training is so fun but Makiah is all about helping Daniel. Does it make me a bad mom if I let her? I don't think so, but if you disagree feel free to not tell me. Ignorance is bliss. ~Wink~

So the other day I hear Makiah in the bathroom with Daniel, pull-ups just purchased and mother hen, uh older sister Makiah was taking a firm hand. She is telling him in a very grown up way to tell her when he needs to go potty or when he feels that funny feeling. Daniel says, "okay Bakiah". Then she tells him that he can tell Mama too. Well thank you Makiah for keeping me in the loop. At this point I am cracking up. I was just outside the bathroom in the office listening. So far everyday for the last three days he has went pee pee in the potty at least once. Sometimes more. He thinks he is very big with his "pool ups" (that would be how he pronounces it) and really likes going to sit on the potty every 10 minutes. Next week we will go invest in cloth training pants and some Mickey Mouse and Elmo underwear, those were his special request underwear. Sam is also actively participating in this process because every time he goes to the bathroom he drags Daniel along. This is typically how it he says it, "come on Daniel, its time to go to the bathroom and I don't won't to hear any arguments" (as he is pulling him by the arm or hand). Ha ha ha, Sam has heard that phrase a time or two thousand in his little lifetime!!! So now that I have many or mini helpers in the potty training process, I do believe it may not cause the death of me. Hopefully.

Aren't you glad that I'm blogging again?? I know you all would not want to miss this!

Apparently I Don't Have Enough To Do or Potty Training 2.0 (The Upgrade)

As I've overstated in my previous posts, I. AM. CRAZY. BUSY., but apparently not busy enough. I decided over the weekend that I wanted to start potty training Daniel. Obviously a serious case of crazy has overtaken me. But I had my reasons, which, because this is my blog, I will now share.

In the last month or so, Daniel asks me several times a day (especially when Sam goes to the potty) if he can go too. Then last week Daniel started informing me not that he is poopy, but that "I pooping". That's right. In the act. So I remembered back to when Sam started saying those things he was almost 2. And I waited to potty train because we were moving. And then I waited more because the so called "experts" said he wasn't ready. The conclusion to that story is that he stills wears a pull-up at night and we just got potty trained and he is 4! I missed my window of opportunity. I feel like if I would have capitalized on his willingness to go potty and understanding way back when, we would not have had the long arduous potty training adventure that we indured. I am hoping to avoid that same difficult road with Daniel. Learn from experience right? I'm trying, anything for an easier experience for all of us.

I realize we are traveling a lot. I realize that in a mere 7 weeks we move and that most "experts" wouldn't suggest trying this now. Who are these "experts" anyway? Do they even have children? Have they ever really potty trained a real, live wild child? I might as well let him sit on that new cute potty if he wants right. I mean so what if he doesn't go in it. So what if it's just another thing to move around the bathroom/living room/office (he likes to sit on it ALL THE TIME, in the buff). But, just what if all this exposure {pun completely intended} just helps the journey go a little faster in a couple of months when I do get totally serious about potty training??!? This is potty training 2.0, the upgrade to the previous version I just survived (barely).

It's worth it. Besides, he wants to sit on it all the time. I always know where he is and he is leaving my dishwasher alone.

Bit O Sweetness

Innocent you think?
Oh no! He is a wrecking ball on feet!!
This cute face is hiding the mess he made behind him.
But he is SO cute!

You're wondering where my posts are that I have been working on? Still unfinished. Yes, today I am leaving you with lil sweetie and nothing more. I'll try harder tomorrow. Really.

Heart Tip of the Day: Whittling away your middle!! Measure your waist, if it's bigger around than 35 inches for women and 40 for men, then you are at an increased risk for heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Time to get serious about making a dent in that extra flab--get active and get rid of simple sugars and white floured foods. These are the foods that like to cling to your middle. Even reducing those foods is better than nothing. Being more active seems to be a running theme in the prevention of heart disease. You can be thin and be unhealthy. Everyone should be active, eating whole grains and limiting simple sugars and white floured food. We in the Lovelock house are doing our best to limit these things (especially the mama), it's hard, but it can be done. By no means have we accomplished it yet.

God Continues to Blow My Mind

God is amazing! I know that I have only shared bits and pieces of Daniel's story on here, but in the last 5 months God has worked some amazing things in my baby's life.

Daniel has been getting physical therapy for 16 months now. Occupational therapy for one year and speech therapy for 5 months. He had several delays that were very concerning. It's a long story that I won't write all out today because its very long and I want to type a detailed account, so everyone sees the miracles along the way.

But today, I want to share the miracle that happened on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Daniel had missed speech therapy for three weeks due to the illnesses that kept plaguing our home. When she arrived he was happy to see her. This was a little surprising because he hadn't seen her and I figured he wouldn't want to play with her. Everyone sat down and I just kept praying that he would talk for her. He talks all the time, but sometimes for other people he doesn't know well or see frequently he clams up. He'll sign but not speak. I just kept silently praying. Well she brought a new toy that he had never seen before and he just talked and talked and repeated big words. Showed off his sentence speaking skills, his singing skills and played and laughed and interacted the whole time. My heart was bursting! She looked up at me and said, "he doesn't need me". YES!! That's what this mama wanted to hear!!!! As they were playing she was evaluating him. Here's the run down, I'm laying it out slow so that the miracle is obvious (not that I think you won't get it, but it's so much better with details):

~~August 2009: Speech evaluation shows language delays only. Cognitively he was fine. He signed four words and had no real (spoken frequently and you know what they are) words. Speech therapy to begin immediately.
~~January 2010: Speech evaluation shows not only is he age appropriate, in some things he tested at a three year old level. A vocabulary of over 100 words, speaking in full sentences. Discharged from speech therapy.

Speech therapist was good, but I think he missed more than he saw her because of illness. He went from nothing to being ahead in five short months. Now you can call it luck or give all the credit to speech therapist but as for me and our family we are GIVING ALL THE GLORY TO GOD. This is just one more miracle that is contained in the BIG miracle he gave us through Daniel.

Daniel not only does all those verbal things I mentioned, but he also counts to ten, by himself. I am not hallucinating. All I have to do is say one and he takes off! He also hums the tune to the ABC song. He sings O, How I Love Jesus, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Old MacDonald.

This is not luck, dear friends. Daniel has had heavenly intervention!

Cheesy boy!! Another blurry pic! I am not happy with this camera, at least the subject is cute!

On the Cusp of Sharing

There is BIG news that I have been keeping for about four months now. No, I'm not pregnant. That's what a LOT of people love to think of first. In just a few short days I'll be able to completely fill in all my bloggity friends, but I'll have to keep you in suspense a couple days longer. Just know that this is HUGE.

As for the rest of this post, a list, that's what I have today friends~a list:

1. I have lost 13 pounds since January 1st. Ecstatic!

2. Daniel was discharged from a second therapy (Speech) today. Two done, one to go. The boy speaks in full sentences now, he does not need speech therapy. God is so good!!

3. I am still cleaning out toys, closets and stuff! Ugh! I want to get it done, but sickness, school and playing Wii seem to get in the way. Don't judge, 'kay?

4. In my Haiti post last week I told you about A and R, well R landed in Florida yesterday and is traveling to his new home in the Midwest to part of a beautiful family stateside!! I fully believe God is working on taking care of the littlest victims of the Haiti earthquake.

5. My laundry is piled high again. I want to know who is using all these clothes??!??

6. God is so good to me and I can't wait to share all the mini miracles that are happening to us!!

Well, this concludes my terrific Tuesday post. I hope you all are having a blessed day!

I Finally Gave Up

Daniel finally got his first hair cut! I did it actually about a month ago and boy did it ever need it.

I just loved his soft little curls and I didn't want him to lose that baby look. But when I had him in the tub and he looked like this, I knew it was time!! At least he still has soft curls, they just aren't so long!

Here is the finished product. . . .

I feel him getting older. Now I see it too.

Commercial Break~~~BREAKING NEWS

I am interrupting my posts on spiritual warfare for a Lovelock update. Check back tomorrow for part 2 of "With the Right Weapons, I Am Dangerous".

I have big news, really big news. No, I am not pregnant for those who read this blog that would love for there to be another Lovelock. The big news is that Daniel is WALKING. And by walking I mean walking everywhere, getting into everything and pretty much keeping me on my toes. . . . and I couldn't be happier! He has made HUGE progress in all aspects of his development in the last two months, he is quickly becoming "age appropriate".

I am also thrilled and over the moon to report that the doctors have ruled out Fragile X, chromosome disorders, metabolic disorders and cerebral palsy. We did however see a neurosurgeon to rule out hydroencephalitis. She ruled that out and found something else. Benign Extra Axillary Fluid Collection of Infancy, I know right?!?!? That's a sentence by itself. Anyway, it's a big long title for something very simple that resolves itself on it's own!! How great is that?? I mean, I'd rather there be nothing, I'd rather it start with benign and resolve on it's own. It's extra fluid between the brain and skull that didn't absorb as fast as it should and usually completely absorbs by age two. It can however cause developmental delays (ding ding ding) and after therapy the kiddos catch up and have no lasting effects from it. YAY and HALLELUJAH and THANK YA JESUS and, well you see that I am grateful, thankful and thrilled!!! God is truly faithful and AWESOME! These are all testamonies to God's great and awesome healing power. I have no doubt that Daniel had major problems and we watched as God unfolded a miracle right before us. Now, as in he wasn't before, he is speeding through his therapy goals at break neck speed. Also, he has had no muscle tightness in his neck, shoulder or torso for close to a month! Another HUGE miracle.

Now I have to go because Daniel is throwing trash out of my kitchen trash can and I must stop now because I am over using the caps lock button!

Have a happy Saturday!!

What a Day!

Daniel is still sick, but I think a little improved. Thank the good Lord. He was really having a hard time!!

Today has been a crazy one. Sam was really feeling like a three year old today and has tested every boundary there is. He has climbed, jumped, fallen, slid and been in the naughty spot more times today than I care to recount. I came in from the kitchen, getting Daniel's medicine, and Samuel was standing on the arm of the couch, trying to reach something on the top shelf of the bookcase. The bookcase is not close enough for him to reach and so he fell straight down onto the excersaucer, nearly dragging the bookcase over on top of him! Needless to say my heart nearly stopped! That was at 9:30 this morning and he has gone full tilt all day. Bedtime is looking really good.

Daniel, who slobbers a lot, was just sporting a diaper for a while today and he likes to feel the velcro tabs of his diaper. I know this, but did mama put a onesie on him?? No, mama apparently left her brain in bed this morning. Well, during one of his times today of feeling pretty good he was playing the pack and play while I did dishes. Makiah called me and said that Daniel had taken his diaper off~~~and there was poo in it! I came a running. Fortunately he was standing and not yet sat down and so a complete yucky disaster was narrowly avoided. I grabbed him and the diaper and cleaned him up. The pack and play was spared. Did mama put a onesie on him then?? No, mama was still thinking that being nakey for a while was okay because in ten minutes that onesie and bib would be soaked anyway. I went back to finish the dishes. Some time passed and later, after his nap and lunch, back in the pack and play he went so that I could sort laundry without him climbing the steps. Makiah called me and said he's naked again. I came running. There he sat no diaper, just as happy as a clam. He just laughed and smiled at me. No accident though, pack and play still clean. Now he is sporting a onesie and a bib. Thank you common sense for finally joining me today.

So it's been a crazy Monday, I spared you the rest of the details. Tomorrow I shall fill you all in on my latest babywearing funny and the new goodies I finally get to try out.

Daniel's First Year

I was going to post pictures of Daniel's party, but because of him being sick, we haven't had it yet! So here are a few pictures of my baby's first year. He has filled all of us with lots of joy and I look forward to seeing what this year holds!!

A Long Day Waiting For Daniel

I went downstairs, the doctor's office is in the Women's Hospital--convenient huh? So we went downstairs to labor & delivery. Fear was gripping me. I had delivered all my others without a c-section and I didn't want to ruin a perfect run. I checked in, got an IV, monitors hooked up, blood clot stockings on my legs and it all became very real. I was terrified.

I gave birth to Makiah and Sam, no meds, completely natural. I did it mostly because with Nathaniel I had an epidural and I was so afraid of the needle, had back pain for 4 months and epi headaches for months afterward, that I had decided never again. Here I was, no choice, a shot in the spine was my only way out. I was more afraid of the spinal block than the actual incision! I went through the day with Hubs keeping my smiling and trying to keep my mind off of 4:30.

As the time approached, you could tell things were picking up and that I was getting ready to go. Good thing too, my contractions had started again. They did one more final ultrasound to make sure we still needed to do the c-section. He was apparently very comfortable, he hadn't moved. Hubs put on his very special jump suit. It was time.

I walked into the operating room. I was terrified. There was the anesthesiologist that I had met earlier. He was ready, but I wasn't. At this point I figured I really couldn't back out. I bravely allowed him to inject me with numbing medication that I wasn't sure I would ever recover from. I kept thinking, what if I never feel my feet again? Or what if I can never walk again because of this shot? Drama was coming into play. Things were moving fast now. I wanted Hubs. Where was he anyway?

Finally after everything else, they let Hubs in. Tears flowed freely at that point. It was safe to cry now. I wasn't sure what I was crying about. It could have been because all the fear off all day finally burst forth, or that my precious baby was finally coming or that they were about to cut me open. I am thinking it was a combination of all the above.

Pressure, lots of pressure and then a little meowy cry. Then it got louder and louder and boy does that boy have some lungs! He was here. Right there, long, skinny and screaming his head off. I kissed his little nose, and they took him to clean him up. Daddy followed the baby at more request. They gave me some relaxing meds and I think I actually went to sleep. Daddy stayed with baby, mama woke up in recovery.

I can't say that the c-section recovery was joyful, because it wasn't. Daniel was great! I was so happy to have him here. All 6 pounds 11 ounces of him. So much for their theory that he was big!

This year with him has been joyous. He was a good baby, rarely cried, peaceful and happy. We've had some issues with his development that caused mama some fear, but on the whole, it's been a lovely year. Developmentally he has made huge strides. I believe God is healing him. What can he do??

~~Crawl everywhere and fast
~~Go up the steps, much to my surprise
~~Pull up and cruise around stuff
~~Finally signs the work "more" (we use a lot of signing with him)
~~Drinks from a sippy cup
~~Self feeds finger foods (pincer grasp gets better everyday)
~~Says ma ma, da da (he also says ga ga ga, which Grams insists that he is calling for her)
~~Walks the walking toy around the room

I am excited to see him change, but I already miss babyhood!

And Daniel Eli Is His Name

One year ago today I was not feeling the best. I was 38 weeks pregnant and was ready to have the peanut on the outside rather than inside. I had mentioned to my doctor that Samuel had been breech right up until the end and then he made a u-turn and everything was fine. I had also told her that I knew his head was in my lungs, I KNEW it. Being the smart doctor she is, she ordered an ultrasound, because everyone knows that mama's are usually right about these things. So as I was driving to the ultrasound I began thinking. . .

On the phone with the Pastor in early March: "I don't think I'll make it to the 24th of April, I have a strange feeling that this boy is coming on the 11th of April."

Pastor: "No, you can't do that we are out of town that weekend. (Laughing) Don't you think you should wait."

Me: "I don't know why, but that's when he is coming."

As I was driving along (on April 10th), this conversation comes back to my head. I think of the fact that I don't have my suitcase packed and all the things I still needed to do in preparation of a peanut. Looking back, except for the suitcase not being packed, everything else was ready, but my nesting insisted it wasn't! I wasn't feeling right, I just felt ICK and I KNEW the baby was breech. I also knew labor was near, I could feel it.

I called Hubs and said "WE NEED A NAME NOW!!" No more waiting. And we decided right then that his name would be Daniel Eli Lovelock. I needed to know his name before the ultrasound, so that if he was breech I could give him a good talking too!

I was right, Daniel was diagonal. Head up on the right and feet down over to the left. Turkey. I was going to have a long talk with him on the way home. I did not want a c-section. At that moment I wanted to wait as long as possible for this baby to be born. However long it took for him to make turn was fine with me. I went home. I did all the crazy positions to get the baby to turn. I prayed. I told Daniel to turn around!

We had a nice evening, just relaxing with my feet up, and I packed that suitcase. About 7:30 that evening, I felt a contraction. I ignored it, drank some more water (to stave off dehydration), and continued watching the movie. Not saying anything to anyone about the contraction. About 8, I had another one. 8:20, another one. By this time, I had to tell Hubs. See my contractions don't need to be close to be effective and I knew that from Sam's birth. So I told him and he says "Are you serious?" Well yeah, I don't really tease about these things. We piddled around and waited for more. 8:40, 9:05 and then 9:20. At this point I see a bad trend developing. I call my parents to come and stay with Makiah and Sam. I didn't even call the doctor, I just went straight to labor and delivery triage. They would call for me.

Hubs and I arrive at Labor and Delivery Triage and I check in. Confirmation on those contractions (yeah, I knew that) and I was dialated to three! I told them he was breech and so a portable ultrasound was brought in to confirm that he hadn't moved. He hadn't. So labor stopping medicine was given. It stopped the contractions until I could get to see a different doctor--one who can do the c-section. Ugh! After two hours of monitoring they felt I could go home (it was now 12:30 a.m.), with an appointment with the new doctor at 8 a.m. I went home and fell (gently) into bed. Around 4:30, contraction. I ignored it. I had little ones inconsistently through the night.

I went to the doctor that morning and he confirmed (again) that Daniel had NOT turned and he scheduled my c-section for that afternoon. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. I wasn't leaving. I was going downstairs to L & D triage to wait until my 4:30 c-section. April 11th. He was coming on April 11th.

Why did I have to be right????

What?? I Am Not Sure I Heard You, Say It Again Please??

So this week I have been crabby. I know it and I am woman enough to admit. Just random crabbiness. Not proud of it, just not in denial either.

Yesterday, I woke up early and was straightening up the living room before physical therapy. I figured since they crawl around on the floor the therapist might appreciate a vacuumed floor. I'm thoughtful like that. So I picked up the random toys that apparently walk around while we sleep and vacuumed. Then the children got up. First Daniel, so we changed diaper and then a bottle sacrifice was offered up. The big kids played upstairs while the therapist was here and so the day started out fine.

That last sentence should tell you something about the following paragraph.

Then about 1:30 that afternoon something transpired. It wasn't a specific event, just something changed. I am not sure what it was exactly but I heard "mommy, mama, mom" said, yelled, whined, cried at least 70 times in about 30 minutes. At that point, I wasn't sure if I should turn on the iPod and tune them out, change my name or sit down and cry. Sam was having a melt down of terrific proportions, still unsure because of what, but when they are three they don't usually have a reason. Makiah was asking for something, but she never got around to actually asking, just saying my name. Daniel was crying and bawling out "ma ma ma ma". In that moment, I considered updating my resume and looking in the want ads.

I stopped.

I left the dishes in the sink, they are used to it anyway, and went out to the living room. I scooped up Daniel, pulled Sam close and calmly asked Makiah to stop repeating my name. I pulled out a story and we sat down and read. Instantly peaceful quiet filled the house and even Daniel was listening to the story. I do believe it was therapeutic for us all.

It seems that on those days, when all craziness is unfolding, that dropping it all and reading a story or singing a peaceful worship song is simply soothing. It also reminded me of why I stay home. Why I have the best job on earth. Why I consider raising my kids the highest calling I could ever have.

Though there are times my kids tend to push all the buttons at once and they may test my patience, I love them more than life. Kids are crabby sometimes too, just like mama's. Sometimes I push the Lord's buttons and I am sure I at times, take His grace and mercy for granted. I am thankful, that He pulls me into His lap and sings to me (Psalm 42:8). And even when mama's crabby, they wanted to spend time with me. Grace and mercy flowed out of all of us yesterday.

I am sure we will have more days like that, but I know one thing for sure, I wouldn't trade one day here with them for anything!

So I'm Back Now

We are back home. Daniel has been in the hospital for the last three days. He had rotovirus and became extremely dehydrated.

He is finally doing better and has more energy and strength now. My poor little guy had lost TWO pounds even his little eyes were sunken. It was horrible.

Needless to say now that we are back home I have much to do in the way of cleaning, disinfecting, laundry and catching up on a LOT of lost sleep. Hubs did a lot of cleaning while I was gone, but I feel the need to deep clean the kitchen and bathrooms--just in case any little germ bugs decided to hang around.

Miraculously, no one else in our household got this nasty virus and I am giving God full credit.

I will do my best to be back tomorrow with an actual post and pics--but at this point I am no longer making any promises!

Off to rock a baby and read a story to my other kidlets.

Just Too Funny Not To Post

The sickness is plaguing us currently. Daniel and I both have the stomach yuck, so therefore, I am not getting much time for anything other than cuddling. So in lieu of an actual post, I give you this. I promise I'll be back with adventures from the Lovelocks in due time.

Busy, So I Leave You With This

Here's a little sweetness since I don't have time to really post a real post.

Daniel was really cheesin' it up at the restaurant on Sunday.

Big smile everyone!!

I like being silly!!

Heart Tip: Snooze and snore. Get some sleep. The average adult needs 7.5 hours of sleep per night. Now if you are a mom and you are getting that amount of sleep, please clue me in to your secret. I realize that getting enough sleep is difficult at best, well it is for me, but it's important that our bodies get rest. Sleeping gives the body a chance to recover while we aren't up abusing it. So get some zzzzz's. If you get the chance sleep in or hit the hay early. It could mean you live a little longer.

My Sweet Baby

As most of you know that read the blog, my baby Daniel has had some challenges in his short life. His appointment with the Developmental Pediatrician finally got here and we are now on a road of discovery.

The doctor said that he definitely has right side increased muscle tone (stiffness) and that it is significant. He was very concerned at the size of his head and the way the head growth charted. It was a steady growth path and then suddenly off the charts. I told him that big heads run in the family (big brains and all) and he said it could be genetic, but he wanted to do a CT to make sure there was no fluid building up around the brain or something else causing the growth and the muscle tone issues. I asked him about Cerebal Palsy (CP), if that's what he was thinking and he explained CP in a way I had never heard. He explained that it was simply a definition of the change in muscle tone (basically an effect of something else). So he said that if he had to give a diagnosis right now, that it would be CP. Finding the cause, if we can, thats the goal right now. So we are waiting on the CT results, should be today or tomorrow. After that we'll know more. He said we are doing what we should be for CP, that is, physical therapy. He also has increased muscle tone around his mouth, so we might add speech therapy to work on those muscles, or get a kit that I can use to work on them. So basically, yes, he has CP, a mild case. Why, not sure yet and we may never know. Daniel is doing really well in physical therapy and he is almost crawling. His head and neck are not as tight (he has his days), he is rolling, sitting, going from laying to sitting and believe me, he can get where he wants to go. He is still behind, but he is improving. He also says mama, dada, and various other babblings. He is smiley and happy 98% of the time. He's a very happy boy.

The doctor wanted to make sure that we understood that a CP diagnosis doesn't have anything to do with his cognitive ability.

So right now, we are justing waiting and doing what we've been doing. He is going to follow up with him in 6 months (unless the CT shows something terrible) to check his progress. His team down here are getting him an appointment rather than 3 hours away. The doctor comes here every 3 months. He will order more tests if the CT doesn't give them an answer, most tests can be done down here. If not, we will take him back up to Riley. Whatever he needs we will do.

Though not what we wanted to hear, we know that things could be much worse. We are trusting God and I know, without a shadow of doubt, that God works all things for the good. We are praying that God would do a good work in my baby and I am trusting Him fully.

Daniel is mama's sweet little baby and I am so very thankful for him. Wouldn't trade him for anything in this world.

Something Simple

I am at home tonight, rather than at Bible study. Daniel is sick again. Poor baby is running a 102 degree fever and has a bad ear infection. So because I am busy being mommy (and that's fine with me) and I am trying to get laundry done, I decided I would just let you all watch a beautiful song. This song has been in my head all week.

I am trying to read the Bible through in a year and you just don't know how it is blessing me. I am loving it! The Word is coming alive as I read it, as if I've never read it before (and I have). I am so thankful to have the privledge to read the very thoughts and intentions of God. It's awesome.

I pray you all enjoy it. If you don't about God's love, grace and mercy--you should. Please watch/listen to the whole thing. It's a beautiful song with an awesome message.

Just Realized. . . .

I did it again. I created a post and forgot to schedule it. So I cheated, I went back in and time stamped it for yesterday. I wouldn't want to start out the new year and not have a post!! :)

Sam--a potty training update--It's going so well, I could cry and leap for joy!! Today, Sam went to the potty and came out and proclaimed that there was "stinky mud" in the bathroom. Fear rose in my throat and I went to inspect. Sam had actually went poo poo in the potty and not on the floor as I had feared. It was a momentous occasion! So, we are doing really well in this area and I plan to have that goal marked off that humungous list by mid year. As you can see I am optimistic, but not overly so. He also recognizes his name (letters) and is getting better with other letters as well. I am hoping by the end of this school year that he knows the alphabet by sight.

Makiah is entering a new semester of school and I am not happy with our curriculum. I mean she's learning, but I don't feel like she is getting enough. So I am researching other options and if you have any suggestions, throw 'em at me. Her reading has come a long way. I never believed she didn't know how, but rather that she didn't want too. She would read her work, but never anything outside of her school books. Now she reads everything and I am happy about that. Yesterday, I was loading the dishwasher and heard her reading a new book, I peeked around the corner and both brothers were sitting beside her enjoying the story. My heart soared! I want to foster a love for reading in my children.

Daniel is getting everywhere he wants to go by rolling there. His favorite thing is the DVD player and he gets mad when we move him away from it. He is just starting the do a form of crawling using his toes and elbows. He also goes backwards which is so funny! Developmentally his is still behind, but definitely improving. He is eating Cheerios now and gets excited when he sees the box! Next week, I plan on making some homemade baby food. I am looking forward to it.

I am trying to break my soda addiction, I am calling it as it is, and will be entering into water only for thirty days. I mean for drinks anyway. I have done this before and broke my bad habit, then I fell off the wagon and soda re-entered my life. I am praying for the same results this time too. I know it sounds silly to be talking of soda as an addition, but for me, it is.

Whew, I am a just rambling on and on. The kids have built a pillow fort and Daniel is in there with them and I am off to clean something (there's always something to clean), then naps and maybe a little crocheting for me.

Have a blessed day!
