A Herd??

Illness has been ravaging our home now for more than 10 days.  Hubs is the only so far that has been spared.  I'll save you the gory details, but suffice it to say that I have stimulated these industries:  tissue makers, juice producers, OTC medicine makers and popsicle makers.  Today I have windows open (blowing germs out ya know) and I am scrubbing everything, again.

So because I am intermittently cleaning and laying down to rest, I am going to leave you with a kidism so profoundly spoken by the baby in the family.  Daniel was schooling us and it's just too good not to share.

We were in the van, leaving the doctors office when a very large flock of birds flew across the sky in perfect vision of the four year old.

Daniel:  "Wow, that's a big herd of birds."

Sam:  "Daniel (said in that exasperated tone), it's not a herd, it's a flock.  A flock of birds."

Daniel:  "A flock?  No Sam (equally exasperated), it's not a flock.  Birds don't flock, they herd.  It's a HERD (very enunciated) of birds."

I was cracking up.  Daniel was certain that it was a herd and he was not changing his mind.  Later that day we were talking to the grandparents on FaceTime and Daniel told Grandpa about the herd of birds. While talking to him I realized why he thought it was a herd and not a flock.  Here you go:

Daniel:  "Grandpa, sheeps are flocks.  Birds fly away in herds."

Mommy:  (because Grandpa was giggling) "Daniel, what is a large group of cows?  What are they called?"

Daniel:  He looked at me as if I was crazy and very profoundly said, "Mama, a lots of cows are a flock.  And pigs and bufflo's."  (That is not a typo, it's his way of saying buffalo's)

Apparently all large animals that live in a groups are flocks.  If a group of sheep is a flock then all ground animals live and migrate in flocks.

Birds however migrate in herds.

A Post About Why

It is a homeschooling post. . . so I posted it here. If you are a homeschooling family or if you are thinking it over, you might be interested in what one homeschooling mama has to say. Since that post is on the kinda serious side, the remainder of this post is all about the funny!

Otherwise, since today it's school talk here are a couple of videos that I must share. I must!

This is just hilarious! And it has truth too it too! If you know a homeschooler and you have asked these, please except these answers and never ask again! ~Laughter~

And if you have never heard this song written by Tim Hawkins about homeschooling families. . cracks me up every time!

I'll be back tomorrow with some Lovelock funnies. . . it's been awhile and I would hate for you all to think that my kids aren't funny anymore!

Kidisms~~LOL

Sam told me the other day that he knew how to make coconut sour tomatoes with hot dogs and sweet tea. After telling Makiah what he was going to cook, he did explain that that was what he cooked in the bath tub. Sam isn't making dinner anytime soon.

The kids were watching Veggie Tales, the story of Dave and the Giant Pickle (David and Goliath the Philistine) when Makiah has a revelation come to her. She began to expound why the Philistines were called the Philistines. Its because when they get angry steam comes out of their ears, hence, Philisteams. I couldn't help but laugh out loud. It was so funny and cute. Oh and I think she may have her daddy's gift of expounding. Just sayin'. (If you know my Hubs you know why I say that).

We sing a song in church, the title escapes me right now, that every time we sing it now, I laugh. One day here around the house Makiah was singing this song, when she came to the last line. Now this is what the last line actually is: "And he'll take you through the fire again". Makiah was belting out this song, every line fine, and then she sang this, "And he'll take you to the farm again". I was listening from the other room, I just cracked up. I corrected her, but now every time we sing that song I laugh, I can't help it. I didn't tell her this, but I always think of the funny farm and how close I live to it.

Samuel loves to play the Wii and I mean he LOVES it. It has become a great bribery tool. Yes I said it and meant it. That's how I roll. Whatever brings sanity is my friend. Anywho, he wanted to play the other day and I told him he had to wait until school time was over. Patience is not a virtue my middle child currently possesses. He had asked me approximately eighty-four times in four minutes and so my patience was packing for a vacation away from the constant asking. He looked up at me with those big brown eyes and said, "Please mama, just for a milet, only one milet". For those still confused milet is Sam-speak for minute. It was so cute that I smiled, kissed his forehead and said "no baby, no yet". I didn't cave, though tempted. Though I didn't cave, his cuteness saved him from a time out for driving mama to that funny farm mentioned above.

Daniel has become quite the talker over the last two months. He started speech therapy in August and now we are wondering if he still needs it. I have a Daniel update scheduled for later this week, but I just had to share this little story. His favorite word is no. Shocking, I know. He says it even when he means yes. But this morning he said it to me and meant it. I told him to go find Bob (not a strange man, the famous tomato) and he promptly said "no" and continued trying to unplug the computer cords. I said, "Daniel, don't say no to mama", in my listen-to-your-mama-son tone. He smiled his crinkly nose smile and said, "awww huggies". Little turkey. He tried to dull my senses with lovin' but this mama has been around the block a time or two. I carried him out of the office. . . while giving him huggies. I am only so strong people.

Okay, enough kidisms for one day. My kids may push me to the brink of my sanity, but they always reel me back in with their sweetness, huggies, smiles and giggles. I love them so much!

Sunday Funnies

Blessed Sunday to you all!! I am looking forward to tonight. Hubs and I are visiting my parents church because my great uncle is preaching there! It will be lovely to see them!! I am also excited for what God has in store for us tonight. You know going to church with an open mind and a heart that is willing to receive from God, will always go home having been fed!

I am so thankful for my freedoms. My natural freedom from living in a free country, but I am also thankful for the freedom I have found in Christ! There is nothing like having God in my life, nothing can deliver you like He can--true freedom!!

Mandisa--Freedom Song

I have to also leave a funny for you because, well, laughter doeth good like a medicine. Who doesn't want to be healthy?? This video is Anita Renfroe and this has totally been me all week!!

I hope your Sunday is blessed. Full of God's presence and joyous laughter!!

Thursday and I Have No Clever Title

Yep, my cleverness is tired today.

Daniel has been kinda sick the last couple of days and so my packing has been seriously hindered by a little munchkin in need of cuddlin'. I have done some packing, but I am not as far along as I had scheduled.

Sam is playing the Wii and it is amazing how good he is while he is playing a game. He loves it and I love how quiet he is while playing. It's almost magical!

Makiah is down at the church with her daddy working on the Chinese village that he is building for Open Grill this year. She loves helping him and it's good daddy/daughter time.

Daniel is sleeping, finally. Poor baby coughed all morning, missing his morning nap and finally collapsed this afternoon. I just hope he sleeps tonight after this long nap. Hopefully the sleep will help with recovery.

We are taking a day trip on Saturday (assuming that Daniel is fever free) to see my grandma and to go to my cousins graduation party. It will be good to see everyone. I haven't been up there since Thanksgiving--too long. I am hoping for good weather and no sick baby.

I got my new Swaddlebees pail liner (mine is in the blue summer pattern) in the mail yesterday and the new bumwear diaper (its so cute). I love the pail liner, it is so colorful and will look great in the kids bathroom when we move. The blue dino diaper is great and it is a wonderful fit. I will definitely be buying more of these!!

So there is my randomness for today. Nothing to fabulous or crazy going on over here. I am kinda glad, but it doesn't make for great blog fodder.

I will leave you with this kids poem. It makes me smile, hopefully it will you too. I say it to Daniel and he just laughs and laughs. If you can read it and not smile, well, you should.

Sam-isms

What is a Sam-ism you ask?? Good question! A Sam-ism is something that Samuel, my vivacious 3 year, says or does that is just too funny. Samuel is full of these little Sam-isms and they come when you least expect them.

I have prepared a sampling for your delight.

The Other Day, A Nap Conversation Between Sam and Mama

Mama: "You have to lay down and take a nap. Right. Now." (We had already been discussing the nap for awhile when you enter the conversation, negotiations had come to an end).

Sam: "Noooooo, please, please, please mama. I be good. I do. Weally. I do. I be good. I not tired."

Mama: "Yes you are tired and you ARE going to take a nap." (Walks over, covers him up, kisses him and walks away).

Sam: "Mama pleeeeeaaaasssse." Silence. Knowing him for all three years of his life, I go back into the room to find him doing somersaults down the couch, yes somersaults.

Mama: "Sam, that doesn't look like you are sleeping?!?! What are ya doing son?" Like I didn't know.

Sam: Very sincere voice, with sincere eyes. "But mama, I woked up." Right. Fastest nap in history, 12.8 seconds.

I sometimes call Samuel, Sammydoodle. I don't know why. Why do mothers call their kids funny little pet names? Sorry, back on topic. Sammydoodle. My mom also calls him that sometimes. So, a couple of days ago, I was loading the dishwasher and Sam came into the kitchen and said, "May I have a drink of milk, Mommydoodle?" Who could turn that down. Since then he has started to sometimes call Hubs, you guessed it, "daddydoodle".

Samuel used to eat everything you sat before him and then once we ventured further into the two's and now well into the three's, I find myself doing more begging than he is eating. Certain things he scarfs up really quick, other things that he used to love, just sits on his plate waiting for someone to eat it up. Needless to say, being the mama I feel the need to feed my kids (it's in the job description), so when he doesn't eat, I am troubled. But I also don't want to run an order-what-you-want diner, so I don't. I try to put things before him I am sure he'll eat, but since he seems to have a palette that is ever changing, I might hit one of out the park and I might not. Yesterday I hit a home run with a turkey hot dog with ketchup and I was at the sink when I heard this, "mmmmmm, this is goody, goody, GOOD". I also heard it again when we had corn on the cob and then today when I made him a bag of popcorn for snack, he ate THE WHOLE BAG. So as long as I feed him turkey hot dogs, corn on the cob and popcorn, we're good. For now anyway.

Well, that was just a small sampling of the Sam-isms. I would write more, but unfortunately my brain didn't catalog them all. Next time, I'll make a list.

Oh and here is another great giveaway hosted by The Frugalicious Mommy. I need these and I bet you do too. They look so cool. So jump over there and enter to win!!

Just Too Funny Not To Post

The sickness is plaguing us currently. Daniel and I both have the stomach yuck, so therefore, I am not getting much time for anything other than cuddling. So in lieu of an actual post, I give you this. I promise I'll be back with adventures from the Lovelocks in due time.

One More Time

I am up north with Daniel at the Developmental Pediatrician today. I'll be home later, but probably won't be able to get a post out, so one more time with Godtube. This is a funny and totally sums up how most of my days go!

Stop and smell the roses, laugh out loud (a lot) and love like you don't have tomorrow.

I'll be back tomorrow with a long report of stuff. I'm sure you won't want to miss it. ~Wink~

Sunday Funny

A little girl in my sons Sunday school class chased him around today and when she caught him, she looked at him and said "You so pwetty" while she cupped his face in her tiny little hands. (She is two years old and the tiniest little thing, especially compared to Samuel the Brute)

He looked at the teacher and said "I don't like this, could you make her leave?"

That's my boy. As tactful as a hippopotamus. And so very cute. A rascal, but cute. Apparently cute enough to garner the attention of a petite two year old who just four days ago was afraid of Samuel. You know that whole he's-20-pounds-heavier-than-me-and-7-inches-taller-and-doesn't-like-to-share-and-I-am-scared-of-him had her screaming in angst, but not today. Today he's pwetty.

She has good taste in cuteness, but I may have to buy a big stick. See, he's mama's baby.

Just kidding. Kinda. I'll give it a few years before I buy the stick, then we'll see.

Hope you all had a blessed Sunday. I did and I'll be back tomorrow, full of adventure to share!

Goodnight.

'Fro-less

No need to break out the white suit, platform shoes or teach him to disco--the 'fro is gone.

Yes, all my son's curls are in the trash can. Even though I like is 'fro, it totally matches his personality, it was too long. It was almost 6 inches when we pulled a strand all the way out to see how long it was, 6 inches!! He was overdo for a cut.

Even though it changes his look so dramatically. He looks like a total big boy.

I like it just a little longer than it is now, but it'll grow in and we won't have to cut it again for several months.

I wish I had counted how many times Hubs said, "stand still son". It was many.

Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Before--isn't he cute!!

Mid-cut, Hubs a death grip on him!!

After!! It's a different kid!!

That's my big boy. A rascal, but mine!

Potty update: fantastic!! No accidents in two days!! We are becoming potty professionals around here. He is doing so well, I promised him a trip to the store at the end of the week to get a little present. Dollar Tree is my friend.

Daniel has pink eye in both eyes. Apparently one of the little girls at church on Sunday had it (no symptoms at the time) and she loved on him more than I like--had to peel her off of him more than once--and now my baby has it. He looks terrible but he just laughs and claps. He doesn't laugh at the drops though.

I think Makiah is going through a growth spurt. This girl is sleeping and sleeping. I know I should wake her, but she is so teary and weepy if you wake her before her time. So we will focus on school work when she wakes up.

Anyway, back to the clothing mountain and cleaning that is calling to me. Back tomorrow with "Homeschooling Fun".

You've Got to Be Kidding

I am cleaning. In my pj's. Is there any other way to clean??

I am trying to get my kitchen back in order from my impromtu hiatus of cleaning due to a myriad of ailments in the last four days.

Samuel had been, well, quite frankly, a stinker all day and I am trying to get something accomplished when I hear a knock on the front door. Being the lightening fast child that he is, he went to the door and opened it. Makiah then happily exclaimed, "it's the maintenance man".

I am trying to think of why they would be at my door when I am in my pj's. Of course they didn't expect me to be in my pj's, it was ya know, three in the afternoon.

Then I remember, the pest control people are coming today. My living room looked like a hurricane had gone through. The kids had just taken all the cushions off and were building a maze. There were three baskets of clean clothes waiting to be folded, sitting in the living room also. Today of all days.

I, peeking around the fridge, ask them to wait just a minute. I ran and got my skirt, threw it on and grabbed a shirt that wasn't dirty (from cleaning) and put it on. I then calmly went and let them in. By now they already think I'm crazy.

We walked into the kitchen just as Samuel was ripping open a package of instant pumpkin pudding, that was supposed to be used for my dessert for the Harvest Party tomorrow night.

He was covered in dry pudding powder from head to toe. Smiling like he had just won a million dollars, he proudly announced, "I open it".

Yes son, and open it you did. Then sensing that he was about to be in trouble ran from the kitchen, spreading pumpkin pudding powder all over. Even left cute, little, fat foot prints across my freshly swept floor.

At that moment, I think I heard a stifled snicker coming from the pest man and maintenance man. I was afraid to make eye contact. See I was still trying to explain why my house was a mess and he just wanted to escape from my craziness as fast as he could.

I wanted to too, but I had to stay and clean up the pudding.

So, as soon as Hubs walked in the door I showed him the food I had somehow managed to make, threw a bottle at him and ran out the door as fast as I could. I headed for the country and the Pampered Chef party. At that point it could have been a welcome home party for a convicted murderer and I would have went.

I went, ate delicious food, bought a baster, went to the grocery store (to replace the pudding) and then back home.

I had a wonderful time at the party, sans kids. It was great to laugh, talk, eat and cook with friends.

When I got home, I talked to Hubs for a minute and then out of the blue both boys began to cry. I picked them both up, Makiah asked me to sing them to sleep and I did. Holding both boys I thought of my day and all the chaos---and all the joy.

I thought about the picture Samuel drew that morning that actually had eyes, nose and mouth. It looked like a face. First picture that I knew what it was. I thought about Makiah telling me I was a great mama. I thought about Daniel's gummy grins.

I thought about how nice it was to be away for awhile--and then how wonderful it was to be back home.

Who's Running Again??

Just a quick Saturday post of funnies. . . enjoy.

Samuel was upset about something yesterday and I am sure it was tragic. . . right now I can't even remember what it was. Tragic, like I said.

Anyway, after several minutes of tears his nose began to run, shocking I know.

I told him to get a tissue and he did.

He proceeded to blow his nose and then in a cute little voice, said "Now I blow my tears".

Translation--he needed to wipe his tears.

Makiah went to spend the day with my mom. Now they seem to have deep conversations during their time together, and today was no different.

Makiah always has many thought provoking questions and today she didn't disappoint. By-the-way, I meant thought provoking for my mom, who has to come up with answers that not only satisfy Makiah, but don't produce another ten questions. Welcome to my daily world mom.

My mom decides that she is going to vote early to avoid the rush on the BIG day, and today is the day she decides to go--Makiah in tow. On the way there Makiah asks where they are going and why. My mom tells her to the library and to vote. Here is how the conversation continues from there.

Makiah: "What is vote?" Yes I am the terrible mother who hasn't told her child one thing about this crazy election season.

Grams: She explains voting and then that we are voting for a new President. I don't know exactly what she said here. Bear with me.

Makiah: "What's the President do?"

Grams: "Makes decisions about our country, laws, takes care of money, makes decisions about war and lots and lots of other things."

At this time Makiah stops to ponder this new found information.

Makiah: After a moment of pondering, and it was only a moment, she says, "Well, Grams, I hope you win."

My mother about lost it and after regaining control of the laughter, she told her that she wasn't running, but thanks for the vote of confidence.

I kind of wish Grams was running too.

It's Face Smearin' Good

A couple of weeks ago I made a wonderful dinner that included corn on the cob.

Samuel was very interested in the fact that the corn was not just laying on his plate to be eaten with his trusty spoon. I guess I didn't realize that Samuel had never had corn on the cob. Makiah loves it and so I thought for some change we'd have fresh corn.

At first Samuel wasn't sure what to do with the the corn, but once I showed him what to do, he gave it a whirl.

And he. loved. it.

Between every bite he told me how "wonnerful" (Sam speak) this "funny corn" is. He liked it so much that he not only ate one he ate another whole ear. It was so funny.

Oh to find joy in simple things.

I ran and grabbed the camera, for I wouldn't want all of you internets to miss this corn munchin', sloppy eatin' mess.

He was in the middle of very seriously explaining how good the corn is. Notice that its good enough to earn a spot on his cheek and nose. Now that's good people.

In case you all forgot what it looks like, Samuel is showing off this new found wonnerful food.

Here are the two corn on the cob munchers. Between the two of them they ate more than Hubs and I.

Now every time I am cooking, not just dinner, Samuel asks if we can "pwease have some funny corn?"

I hate to disappoint him, but we are not having corn on the cob with our waffles.

Comic Relief

Living with children will totally change your every day life.

Things that were never noticed before are noticed, usually at very inconvenient times, and they are usually turned in something funny within the mind of a child.

For instance Makiah was taking a bath the other day (she's only showering right now because of the surgery) at Grandma's, a favorite past time. My girl would take a bath at Home Depot if they had water. She loves a good bath. This is what pearl of wisdom she handed down that day.

Makiah: (passes gas in the water, bubbles are created) Ha ha ha, that's funny. I made bubbles. They tickle. (passes gas again, she turns around to see them) Ha ha ha, you can see 'em and smell 'em.

Such a lady of grace. Obviously her wisdom only comes in spurts. Or it was drowned out by all the water she was sloshing around in.

Samuel is always good for some comic relief, and most days I need comic relief.

This morning, as I was attempting to get the drama queen to finish her math and talking with Grams who called to check on us, I look over to find my forty-one pound, three and a half foot tall, two year old sitting in Daniel's infant car seat. Here's our conversation:

Mama: (talking on the phone with Grams)

Samuel: "Mama (from the car seat), hold it down, I tryin' to lax (relax)."

Mama: (Laughter) "Sam you are a mess, what are you doing?"

Samuel: "I resting. Doin' my Bible study. I doin' my stuffs."

Mama: "Really?"

Samuel: "Yeah, I rockin' (rocking the carseat) and laxin'. Doin' my stuffs."

Helping with lunch:

Samuel: "Mama, I help cook, okay? I gots a fork. Now, where's a knife?"

Makiah: "There in here. Let's help."

Mama: Noooo, I don't think so."

Samuel: "Ahh, man."

Makiah: "We won't use a sharp one, just the butter kind"

Mama: Thinks to herself, is she a future lawyer? I don't know its a close run between drama queen actress or arguing lawyer. "Please go wait, I'll do the cooking. Thanks anyway."

So words of wisdom for today:

Stop and smell the bubbles coming from the tub and always remember to rock, lax and do stuffs. Keep the knives locked up. Life is short.

Overheard

As we were driving along this morning, we passed a cemetery. Now my daughter has issues with death, but that's for another post, but she observed the cemetery and this is the conversation that ensued:

Makiah: Wow, all those people are dead.

Hubs: Well, I hope so.

Makiah: There is like, six hundred and thousand.

Sam: Looky at all the pwetty flowers. WOW!

Makiah: Man, there is eight hundred and thousand flowers out there mom.

Mama: Yes, I see them.

Sam: Well, I like a cheeseburga and golf. Yep, and firetucks. Can we go bowling?

Makiah: Speaking of cheeseburgers, when are we going to eat? (We had just eaten breakfast and it was 9:30 a.m.).

This is the type of stimulating conversation you will hear when riding with a carload of Lovelocks!

Wooly "Mom"eth

Okay so I made the huge mistake of saying out loud that I need to shave because my legs are beginning to look a wooly mammoth's legs. Makiah (yes, I said it in front of a child that repeats all she hears) happened to be in the room and says Oh Mom you're not a wooly "mom"eth. After correcting her and explaining what a mammoth was, I looked at my legs and thought-ya know she was right, I am a wooly "mom"eth!!

I just knew all three of you that read about my life would not survive without hearing that story.

Well, I have tons to say and pics to post, but that will have to wait until later. I am off to unpack some more and cook some grub. Hubs is studying for church tonight and Daniel is licking the boppy--I think he might be hungry, so I need to quit blogging around and get busy.

TO BE CONTINUED. . . . . . (I just know ya'll are on pins and needles, try not to blow a gasket waiting on my next post). . . .
